Staff at RBS have to take out company bank account
Shocked employees from the Royal Bank of Scotland have been told that they must take out a bank account with RBS otherwise they will have to face disciplinary action.
A letter was sent out by the Chief Executive of retails markets operations at the Royal Bank of Scotland, telling staff that they have to open an RBS account into which their salaries would be paid, otherwise they would face disciplinary action.
In the letter that was sent to them RBS staff were told that they must open a bank account, and that 'failure to do so will represent a breach of group policy and I will be obliged to write directly to your line manager asking them to progress this matter according to the group's disciplinary policy'.
The letter was sent out to around fourteen thousand members of staff who are now being forced to open accounts in order to have their salaries paid and to avoid further action by the bank. At a time when banks are already under close scrutiny it now seems as though the banks are even turning against their own.
One member of staff that joined the RBS last year stated: 'When I started they made me take out two accounts. One was a staff account and one was the Advantage Gold account. They said I had to take the accounts because I worked for the bank and would have to sell these accounts to the public.'
In response to the incident a spokesperson for RBS said: 'This requirement is in the terms and conditions of employment for staff that they sign up to when they join. A breach could lead to disciplinary action. This policy is in place across the industry.'
